Processing of the food that we eat is critical to the maintenance of life, so caring for the digestive tract can optimize health and prevent illness. The stomach is the primary area of the digestive system associated with abdominal pain and other common digestive issues. Some of these routine problems include cramping, bloating, nausea, vomiting and heartburn. These common stomach maladies, although unpleasant, do not usually signal more serious digestive problems, and can be treated with a variety of effective home remedies.
As with any other health problems, taking steps to prevent the onset of stomach upset is always preferred. Adhering to a daily exercise routine and a simple diet can go a long way towards regulation of normal digestive processes. Consumption of mostly raw or unprocessed vegetables, whole grains and fruits can alleviate many elimination issues, such as constipation or diahrrea. Regulating your intake of fatty or hard to digest foods, such as red meats and eliminating items that irritate your stomach, can also help.
If, despite your best efforts at prevention, you are still experiencing stomach discomfort or frequent stomach upset, here are some at-home treatments for ordinary stomach ailments.
1.) Drink a full glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in it.
2.) Chew candied ginger or drink ginger tea. Peppermint or chamomile herbal teas may also be helpful.
3.) Drink two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a full glass of water.
4.) Drink a large glass of warm water mixed with the juice of a lemon or lime.
5.) Drink a small glass of buttermilk mixed with coriander.
6.) Eat yogurt with live, active cultures.
Remember that not all remedies work the same for all individuals. If stomach problems are persistent or very frequent, you may consider seeking the advice of a medical professional.
